Social Media Presence Your presence on social media can make or break your success with public relations (PR) projects, current and potential clients. Social media has become the world’s biggest marketplace and it is all about how you present yourself, what you say, and what you do on this platform. Good Eye Contact Booking your first client, as you will hear so many times, might be the most challenging thing to do. When you book your first client it is very important that you give great eye contact, that shows your future client how serious you are. Good eye contact might come in handy for meeting the love of your life, or getting your dream job. It can involve many different situations. Build Strong Partnerships Building stronger partnerships doesn’t just mean getting closer with people you already know. This also means getting out of your comfort zone and shaking hands and talking with people you don’t know. This is where good eye contact plays a big role as well as being a good communicator. Building strong partnerships with people you meet in the PR field may be a prospective client. While you are on the quest for your first client, remember that all the little things matter. Knowing Your Strengths Knowing your strengths will help you land your first client faster than you think. In PR, if you do not know your strengthens you could possibly be doing jobs that highlight your weaknesses. Knowing your strengths will help you figure out your worth, capabilities, and communicate your plan better to future clients. Find your strengths and build your portfolio focusing on all your strengths; it will take you a long way as a PR professional.

Public relations (PR) representatives help celebrities (e.g. famous actors, singers, rappers, authors) in many different ways such as by organizing events, tours, charities, etc. They may help music celebrities by telling their client when or when not to release any music. PR agents may also help build or maintain their clients' brand or image. Many music artists have a strong public relations team. Nowadays, these artists don’t just do music; many of them have their own fashion line and model as well. Young Thug, A$ap Rocky, Lil' Uzi Vert, and Lil' Wayne are just a few. By entering the fashion industry, music artists are able to stay in the public eye, and they can generate more revenue. Celebrity PR representatives also help their clients by finding opportunities for them to make public appearances such as award shows, charity and red carpet events, movie sets, interviews, and photo shoots. They also manage media relations for their celebrity clients. The list is endless. Being a college student is like walking into a new world of scholars. Some people may fall back and go with the crowd, and others choose to lead by example. Being a good communicator will not just get you through college, but it will get you through life. This article will teach you three important ways to become great communicators in college: 1. Listen to learn, don’t listen to respond. Today, many people do not listen for understanding anymore. Having your own opinion and speaking up for yourself is what social media professionals have turned the media world into. But life is very different being a public relations (PR) professional; being a good listener and note taker will help you master the understanding of you client’s vision and be able to provide superior service to his or her every need. When you have multiple clients, you must understand multiple audiences and have multiple strategies. A great way to practice this skill is to make sure you let your professors and classmates express their entire thought before your respond. 2. Network. Networking in PR is the best style of communication you can use while in college. Every day in school you are sitting next to people who have dreams and aspire to do great things. You may have classmates who already work in PR firms and with social media influencers. Don’t forget about your teachers either; many teachers may have already worked in the field you are looking to get into. Make sure you build connections with your teachers and classmates; get career advice from people who work in PR. Networking is very essential and can be the building block to your success. Networking just might land you the job of your dreams, all it takes is communication. 3. Take advantage of group presentations. As a college student for four years, I have learned many effective ways of using group presentations to hone my communication skills. The key to group presentations is to get you to work, understand, and communicate in a team setting. You should be aware that once you start working for a marketing or communication company, you will have to be able to work in groups and complete tasks. So, when your professor gives you a group assignment, volunteer to be the group leader and make sure everyone gets their work done on time. I promise you the experience will help to prepare you for your PR career. |
